An attendance question was done to start the class. Next reviewed the homework questions from last class and we talked about report cards coming out in two weeks. Then, we took the following notes on waves... and then completed two worksheets on waves - one focussing on vocabulary and the other on comparing different waves. After, we played with ray boxes, prisms and mirrors!
Notes... -A wave with the crest, trough, amplitude and wavelength labelled -An example of a transverse wave Ex. rope or colour -An example of a longitudinal (compression) wave Ex. sound or slinky -Frequency = number of cycles/time taken for those cycles (Hertz = Hz) -Wavelength = crest to crest or trough to trough (mm/cm/m etc.) -Amplitude = equilibrium to crest or trough (mm/cm/m etc.) *the larger the amplitude the more energy the wave has Examples done as a class... Calculate the following frequencies in Hertz (Hz)
