The class completed 'Like Terms Part 2' notes and questions that were handed out with 'Like Terms Part 1' awhile ago.
Please complete the 'Like Terms Part 2' questions for next class! The class did the following BEDMAS word problems today...
8.2 - 13, 15, 18, 22, 24 8.4 - 12, 13, 15, 17, 19 8.5 - 9, 10, 13, 14, 21 These will be collected on Thursday for a homework check! The class started off with an attendance question and then students focussed on BEDMAS review. There was a short multiplication quizeroo and a second attempt offered for it at the end of the class. Students had the option to work on concepts that were still a stretch for them or play Frarkle in the second block.
Textbook Questions... 8.1 - 5-11 8.2 - 4-11 8.3 - 3-8 8.4 - 5-10 8.5 - 4-7 There will be a BEDMAS quiz tomorrow! Please come see me if you have any questions :) The class did some vertical white boarding on BEDMAS and then continued on with the BEDMAS worksheet focussing on exponents. Some students transitioned onto visual representations in the textbook.
Please bring all completed homework to class on Thursday for a homework check! There will also be a short quizeroo on multiplication and division on Thursday. The class started off with an attendance question and then did some review before their quiz. After, the class continued working on BEDMAS questions then had to option to play a game or complete homework.
Please complete the BEDMAS questions for homework if you did not complete them in class! The class started learning about order of operations and BEDMAS today. We also did a practice quiz for the official addition and subtraction of like terms quiz that will be happening tomorrow!
The class continued working on multiplication and division of integers and made the following Journal entry...
Multiplication... Division.... (+)x(+)=(+) (+)/(+)=(+) (-)x(+)=(-) (+)/(-)=(-) (+)x(-)=(-) (-)/(+)=(-) (-)x(-)=(+) (-)/(-)=(+) Question: What is the relationship between multiplication and division? Homework check for multiplication and division is happening tomorrow! The students learned about multiplication and division of integers today.
The class started with an attendance question and then we continued with 'Like Terms'. We made the following Math Journal entry and then played 'Farkle' and 'GCF' dice games!
Language in Math... Letters = #'s and letters Words = terms Ex. 3x Expressions = expressions Ex. 3x-5 Statements = equations Ex. 3x-5x=-2x In math a + or - sign indicates a new term, or grouping, just like a space indicates a new sentence or word in English! Ex. /-3x^2/+2x^2/+6x^2/=5x^2 5=coefficient, x=variable, 2=exponent Prime # - a whole # that cannot be divided by any other whole # besides 1 and self Ex. 5, 7, 11, 13... Composite # - whole # that can be divided by two or more whole #'s, called factors. Ex. 36 = 2x18, 3x12, 6x6, 9x4 Greatest Common Factor - The greatest # that is a factor of your chosen # Ex. for 36 it is 18 Then we played 'Farkle' and 'GCF' dice games! Homework check for addition and subtraction of integers is happening on Friday! Today the class made a the first entry in their Math Journal and then transition onto learning about 'Like Terms'.
Journal Entry... Integers - a signed # (+ or -) Groupings - sign in attached to the following #s Ex. /-15/+3/=-12 & /(+15)/-(-3)/=18 Rule - 3-(-7)=10 is really 3+7=10 *two negatives make a positive sign (addition) 3+(-7)=-4 is really 3-7=-4 *a positive sign and a negative sign make a negative sign (subtraction) Question: What is the connection between addition and subtraction? Addition and subtraction are inverse operations. The class continued to work on addition and subtraction of integers.
The class learned about addition and subtraction of negative integers with this worksheet and some group white boarding.
Today we started off with an attendance question and then we did group white-boarding focussing on reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. After we did the 'Prime Climb' and then decorated our math journals. In the second block we did math focussed games that involved counting and money.
